Synopsis/Details
"Human shoes, human skin, and human life." Two brothers (Sidney Poitier and Morgan Freeman) own and work inside an antique store with their wife (Cicely Tyson and Phylicia Rashad). A not so rich and a not so poor black family of four: Martin Lawrence, Gloria Reuben and their teenagers; Taj Speights and Yara Shahidi, and a rich white family of four: Crispin Glover, Heather Graham and their teenagers; Lucas Hedges and Elle Fanning walk inside their antique shop. They notice the white family acting snobby towards them and the black family. They also noticed the white family making racist comments towards the black family. The two families get into an argument about being happy about who each other is not (race), saying things like I'm glad I'm not black or I'm glad I'm not white, and both families start making racist comments towards the other family and vice versa. Cicely Tyson had both families read a phrase together that said "New year, new me". Both families woke up in the bodies of the families that they were in the antique shop with (white family waking up in the black family body, and vice versa, black family waking up in the white family body). The families would be stuck in their new bodies for three months, until January 1st. The people from the antique store want both families to know that it's up to them to understand the shoes and the skin that they're in now, such as; living life and experiencing life in their new bodies. They also want them to do some good deeds for people, not just people that look like them or people with the same financials, just people in general. If that's not accomplished by January 1st each one of them would be in the body that they are in forever, now if it is accomplished, both families would go back to their bodies. It shows both families living and understanding the lives of the shoes and the skin they're in, and doing good deeds for people. Both families did everything they're supposed to do. When it hits January 1st each of the family's is back in their own shoes and in their own skin. Just to let it be known, this movie is not only pertaining to black people, white people, rich people, or poor people, this pertains to everybody (race, gender, age, rich, and poor) in general. "Treat people the way you want to be treated." Don't just say it. Live by it. Make it last. Show that it can last. Have this quote as your mindset everyday. Not half a mindset, not no mindset, but you're whole mindset.
