Synopsis/Details
In this ensemble comedy, it's all about winning for those that enter the ESCAPE PARTY. All disillusioned gamer Chris, wanted to do was play in an escape room with his friends. He puts together what he believes is the best team for winning the game. The only problem is, well he was wrong. They get matched up with an eclectic cast of the worst team you could possibly assemble. Some players are easily frightened, others refuse to share information, and some are so lost in their own little world that it is unclear if they even understand the rules. Competition, paranoia, and backstabbing ensue and they realize that working together may be more challenging than actually playing the game. At their core, escape rooms are team-based activities that rely on the intelligence, cooperation, and willingness of the participants to work together to solve puzzles. Naturally, the characters in this game lack these fundamental traits which turn their experience into a comedy of errors. As the game becomes more elaborate, and the bickering teammates become more ridiculous, Chris begins to notice bizarre situations that make him question if this really is just a game, or is someone just messing with him. The group bumbles their way through semi-orchestrated puzzles and despite their selfish tendencies, they discover that their individual strengths actually complement one another. It all builds up until Chris deduces they're all just characters in a video game, and all of the odd moments he's been experiencing are actually video game tropes. Ironically, Escape Party really was just a game, just not the kind that he thought.

The Writer: Gabe Montero

At the young age of 2 years old, I was first introduced to Cinema and I've been hooked ever since. Back then I had to lean sideways and sit on mom’s purse to be able to see past the unbelievably tall person sitting in front of me. My passion was evident, and this led me to pursue filmmaking. I made my directorial debut with “Escape Party”, (2021, USA) a short film about the worst team of players you could put together to play in an escape room. “Escape Party” was the winner for "Best Short Short Film" in the Paris Independent Film Festival, winner of "Best Cinematography" in the Feedback Under 5 Minute Festival winner of "Best Ensemble Cast in Austin Micro Film Festival, and placed as a… Go to bio
