Synopsis/Details
The movie opens with a bruised and injured Alex laying on his back in the middle of a forest; a dazed expression etched on his face as gunshots echo through the trees. The story then alternates between Alex’s session with a psychologist following the events in the forest and the conflict leading up to the opening scene. In an attempt to escape the stress of their everyday lives, Alex and his girlfriend, Kate, decide to backpack through a nearby forest. After getting lost, they stumble upon a small, dilapidated cabin nestled in the woods. When they find the cabin unlocked, Alex and Kate enter to find several boxes, barrels, blueprints, and other items stacked around the room. Upon analyzing the blueprints, they surmise that someone is planning a terrorist attack on a school. Alex quickly opens a nearby box filled with firearms and ammunition. As a vehicle suddenly approaches, Alex stuffs the blueprints into his backpack and retrieves a handgun and rifle from one of the boxes before running for the back door with Kate. When Cole, Jackson, Harper, and Stevens enter the cabin, they notice the blueprints are missing. They are in the process of combing the cabin when Jackson notices Alex and Kate running away across the clearing. Cole and Stevens exit through the front door heading in a different direction as Harper and Jackson pursue Alex and Kate, bullets spraying through the trees. Alex uses the rifle he pulled from the cabin to kill Harper before he and Kate disappear in the forest. After hiding Kate and giving her the handgun he took from the cabin, Alex heads back toward Jackson. Alex hides as Jackson, who has now been joined by Stevens, engages him in a firefight. Alex successfully creates a diversion, allowing him to kill Stevens and wound Jackson who attempts to disappear into the forest. Alex pursues and kills Jackson, but is immediately shot in the shoulder and leg by Cole. Cole stands over the wounded Alex, demanding to know where Kate is hidden. When Alex refuses to cooperate, Cole prepares to kill him as a gunshot suddenly echoes through the trees. Kate stands several feet behind Cole, her handgun aimed directly at him. As Cole quickly raises his rifle toward Kate, another gunshot rings through the woods. Alex concludes his session with the psychologist as it is revealed that Kate also survived the events in the forest, but is now in a catatonic state. Alex assures the psychologist that he will do whatever is needed to help Kate overcome her psychological difficulties.
