Synopsis/Details
How to be a She-E-O is a play about feminism, capitalism and influencers. It takes the format of a TED-style talk given by ‘The GirlBOSS Collective’, a group of three influencers who have managed to create a successful business selling merchandise and preaching girl power. However, the realities of the business are unpicked by a journalist and highlighted to be at odds with their mission statement. What does ‘girl power’ mean? Who gets to be empowered? And why are the women working in their overseas factory exploited and overlooked? It highlights the precariousness of fame in the modern world, explores ‘cancel culture’, whilst also unpicks what people will do to succeed. It’s a fast paced show inspired in part by the controversies of millennial-darlings, Thinx and Away suitcases, that criticises ‘girl power capitalism’.
