Synopsis/Details
Nick Quisp is an attractive, smart, fun gay man. But his insecurities torpedo him at every turn, while his best friend and roommate—chubby, slovenly horndog Lucas—has his pick of the litter. And he picks from the litter. A lot. While Nick chases trends to patch up his “shortcomings,” his friends, drug dealer Velvet, stoner Jesse, coworker Jacks and hanger-on Kim-Kim, give him tips on what to do to find a man. And bartender Lance gives him support while harboring a secret crush on him. One night out, Nick’s sister, Rebecca, who is soon getting married, visits with a new friend: gloriously hot—and straight—musician Brett, who hits it off with Nick. Nick laments his inability to find romance, and Brett laments not being taken seriously because of his looks, so they decide to help each other out. While Velvet insinuates herself with a pot-delivery service that’s moving onto her turf, Nick sets Brett up with an audition at a club, which Brett nails. Brett invites Nick and Lucas to an art gallery opening he’s bartending, where Nick becomes smitten with Benjamin, another Beautiful Bartender. Unfortunately, Nick’s accidentally eaten too many pot brownies and as the drug sets in, he humiliates himself in front of Benjamin and flees. He continues to try the new clothes, the new haircuts, the new trends with consistently degrading results, while Lance continues to advise him to be himself. Nick tells Brett that Rebecca was the beautiful one, so he never felt beautiful himself. Benjamin calls Nick and asks if he’d like to get together, surprising Nick. Brett encourages Nick to continue playing the field, including drag queen dating contests and nude yoga. Nick and Benjamin begin dating and Benjamin helps him over his fear of being out of control. With the confidence Benjamin has instilled in him, Nick starts getting attention from other men. When Velvet’s arrested on a minor traffic issue, she gets out of the drug-delivery business entirely. With Benjamin as his date for Rebecca’s wedding, Nick finally gets over his insecurity. Until Benjamin is discovered fellating Nick’s arch nemesis, humiliating him in front of the entire wedding party. Benjamin admits he was just seeing Nick as a favor for Brett. Nick is enraged with Brett and when he turns to Lance for solace, he’s rebuffed because Lance is finally over Nick not noticing him. Nick makes up with Brett, who makes him realize Lance really is the one for him. Nick goes on a wild chase looking for Lance, afraid he’s left town. He finally finds him and they realize they’re a match.
