Synopsis/Details
2019 SCREENCRAFT HONORABLE MENTION FINALIST A few weeks before Christmas, a homeless teen, Menewa, kidnaps a dog named Licorice. The rambunctious dog escapes and runs into Lacie and James Alexander, while they are riding their horses. Romantic sparks fly when Menewa and Lacie meet. James is against the relationship because he knows Menewa has spent time in detention, thus creating a rift between the siblings. Unfortunately, before James accepts Menewa, Lacie is killed while riding her horse. Both boys spiral into rageful maniacs, blaming themselves as well as each other for her death. Engulfed in sorrow, James loses the ability to see due to a psychosomatic illness called hysterical blindness. He doesn’t regain his sight until Licorice guides him to a cave-in where his only remaining sibling is trapped with his nemesis, Menewa. In the end, the boys’ wrath dissolves because Licorice helps them realize love is more powerful than hate.
