Synopsis/Details
I have a franchise bible that has grown out of this concept. The franchise bible includes beat sheets for three more features, set in India, Uganda and China respectively. The Franchise Bible also has frameworks for: a streamTV children's show; sets of graphic novels; Youtube channel; merchandise. ROOTS OF MAGIC Think Maleficent meets E.T. Our elves are no more than 1 ft. tall. They come in all shapes and colours. Setting: Today, Washington D.C., and the underground elves’ half-world, where they’ve had to stay in hiding for the past 1000 years. Prologue (pages 1-4) using strong visuals, explains how in ‘ancient times’: - a young ‘spiritual human’ and an elf can bond, to be extra-powerful, - the Crystal Dragon spreads messages of peace between tribes around the world, - when a Crystal Dragon dies, the elf & human must bring a new stone egg to the cave of Gaia’s conscious mind. In return, Gaia allows 3rd dimension (for humans) & 5th dimension (for elves & fairies), - 1000 years ago evil wizards forced a girl to offer a poisoned egg to Gaia - the 5th dimension collapsed, elves and fairies had to go into hiding, but now Gaia is waking up. Act One: At the cavernous elf party, young elf warrior Whylie preps for the mission: bond with a human child, get the stone egg and return it to the Elf King (who the audience sees as evil). Whylie’s father implies it will be hard to betray the bond of love with his human. Whylie is arrogant (but has a soft spot for fairies). Whylie understands: if the Elf King delivers the stone egg to Gaia, the awakened Mother Earth, she will destroy the 3rd dimension...humans will all die, and the elves will live on the surface again! Our hero, Simon (10, skinny, bad relationship with dad & teachers) is naive. He and Whylie imprint on each other, and experience the magic of nature & the power of friendship, but Whylie manipulates Simon to turn a typical protest in Washington D.C. into a violent mob. by contrast, they meet Asha and her new elf, Lignette (Lignette refuses to betray her human, unlike Whylie, who is so torn between Simon & the mission). Asha takes Simon to her coven. He learns his mother was a lead witch with this coven. Simon feels betrayed by his father, for having kept this all secret, and decides to stay with the coven. The elves must stay hidden from the adults, as witches don’t trust elves anymore. Baern, a coven wizard, is seen as evil by the audience, but Simon sees him as a benefactor. Act Two: Simon is confused, unaware of the evil forces manipulating him. Baern takes the children to a ceremonial cave. He asks if they’ve seen a stone egg ‘like this one’. It is a fake (Lignette catches a glimpse of a woman’s spirit caught in the egg). The Coven Crone, Simon’s grandmother, kicks Baern and Simon out of the cave. In ceremony with Asha she ‘sees’ the death of the last Crystal Dragon. Asha sees nothing, but Simon & Whylie have secretly returned. They ‘see’ the Crystal Dragon, and it sees them. Whylie casts a spell, and the coven dissolves in fighting. Act Three: Simon makes good decisions, is brave. Simon decides to go back to his dad’s. He finds the stone egg (his mother had hidden it before she died). Whylie steals the egg, takes it to the Elf King. He is shocked to see the Elf King has his own human bond: with Baern! Egg in hand, Baern kills the Elf King. Whylie barely escapes on an upward root as the elf caverns collapse. Fairies have been unleashed, are used as weapons by armies of elves, spreading madness amongst humans all around the world. Covens of witches try to fight them off. Baern poisons the stone egg, but is called away ‘to the battle’. Lignette sacrifices herself to draw the poison out of the egg. Whylie finds her dying; she says he must make the journey to Gaia’s cave with Simon, but Whylie is sure Simon will never forgive him. He goes alone. Baern follows him, and blocks the cave behind them. Simon convinces his father they have to help Whylie, they need to get to a ceremonial cave. His dad works at the Pentagon (built on top of the most powerful ceremonial cave). Simon reaches Gaia’s cave, but Whylie is comatose. Simon cries and begs for his friend to wake up, takes a literal leap of faith. Gaia re-unites them, accepts the egg. On the way back up, the two get lost, are sure they’ll die. Baern attacks them, is about to kill them, and capture their souls in a fake egg - like he did to Simon’s mother! Suddenly, a shiny new Crystal Dragon rushes in, kills Baern. Simon & Whylie ride the Crystal Dragon to the surface in triumph. Epilogue: Simon’s mother’s soul is released. Simon & Whylie have a new mission: end the war between witches and elves, and defeat the true enemy...

The Writer: Sarah Gabrielle Baron

Sarah has a deeply spiritual relationship with nature. Forays into Hinduism, Taoist Buddhism, New Age, Christianity, Islam, Rastafarianism, and Wicca have all complemented her lifelong friendship with Indigenous culture, particularly Anishinabek Nation where she lives in Northern Ontario. Sarah has recently received some flack for making that description. Sarah by no means is saying these cultures are her own. No! By "foray" Sarah means that she has delved deeply into these various aspects of our human spiritual heritage, those listed and many more, and that influences her creative work. The bio picture you see is of Sarah in front of two Egyptian statues now on display at the Vatican. How… Go to bio
