Synopsis/Details
SCAREY TALES was the most popular children’s book series in the ‘90s. The author, Larry Scarey, has since moved on to other projects, but one neurotic fan is determined to revive the beloved books. Even if it means kidnapping Larry and forcing him to listen to the fan’s twisted gory pitch for a SCAREY TALES revival series.
Lawrence “Larry” Scarey is an R.L. Stine-esque author who has done his best to put SCAREY TALES behind him. The nameless fan, on the other hand, has been obsessed with the books since he was a child and refuses to let their legacy die.
Each stand-alone half-hour episode follows a different group of kids who come across gruesome, grizzly, and scream-worthy horrors. Though the outcome of each venture is never foreseeable, I guarantee each story contains one hell of a twist.
In the pilot, Revenge of the Pumpkin King, Alex’s hunt for a Halloween legend is literally cut short when he decapitates a ghoul with a machete. At least, he thinks it’s a ghoul…
While the series is inspired by SCAREY TALES, and other like-minded kids’ anthologies from the 90s, let me reiterate that this shit is not for kids. The demographic for SCAREY TALES has evolved, and this revival needs to reflect that evolution. Today’s audiences crave three things: blood, gore, and death! If you want to play it safe, go watch Saturday morning cartoons. The monsters in my series are batshit crazy and out to kill. When someone gets cut, they bleed. When someone dies, they stay dead. When a guy’s head gets cut off with a machete, you bet your ass it stays off!
