Synopsis/Details
In this dark screwball comedy series, private detective VINNY SHEW is a man out of time. Believing himself to be a grizzled pulp detective from the 1950s, Shew has somehow managed to wind up in a Hollywood mental health facility amidst its wacky array of fellow residents. Upon discovering the death of his one true love, Vinny Shew Private Dick now must pop the lid on this can of nuts and amscray by any means necessary. Shew is determined to convince the staff and his fellow patients that he truly is the great Gumshoe, and not a former television actor named "Thomas Payne" of a recently canceled noir-styled series called ‘You’ll Never Live In This City Again’. Shew discovers - by way of the Evening News on the colored picture box - that the only dame he's ever loved has been found dead. Though all reports say it was suicide, the great detective has a nose for truth and believes his blonde bombshell babe (KITTEN, aka actress VERONICA JUPITER) was the victim of cold-blooded murder. Now, on a mission to get justice, Shew must persuade his therapist (MICK O'SHAUGHNESSY) to help him and prove his identity before Kitten's murderer gets away scot-free. Each episode will find Shew solving unconventional cases for the occupants within his psychiatric confines, attempting to curry favor, and earning weekly supervised field trips. These outings enable Shew to visit spots where he may find clues to what really happened to Kitten. However, things are not always as they seem. Shew's frequent flashes, or visions, of a life he doesn't recognize come crashing in at the least opportune moments, revealing bits and pieces of a much larger mystery that needs to be solved in order for his true self to break free. Who will come out on top in the end; The great Vinny Shew, Private Dick, or a Hollywood has-been with secrets that may be better left buried?

SCRIPT COVERAGE
“It’s clear that you’re a talented writer with an ear for dialogue and a solid education in comedy. There were certain moments in ‘The Broken Dick’ that remind one of the great Abrahams/Zucker comedies...” ~ The Writers Store Script Coverage “

“The Broken Dick is a funny and intriguing script that blends multiple genres to create a unique show. There are many hallmarks and allusions to classic detective and film noir movies and television series, and the dialogue (particularly that of SHEW) recalls the world of early 20th century mystery. However, there’s a madcap sense of humor at play too, and this is particularly evident in the interactions between Shew and the other patients. His [Shew] dialogue makes him an extremely memorable character. His hard-boiled detective lingo is funny, and engaging… There’s a lot to like about this story. The piece has a distinct setting and a distinct, memorable main character. The pilot is very castable, which makes it easier to put recognizable talent in lead roles. This wouldn’t be a very expensive pilot, either; always a plus – especially for networks hoping to churn out a number of pilots per season.” ~ The Black List
