The Devil Behind

Ameen Yashed is a man who takes life and his family for granted.
He resigns from his job on the eve of the first lockdown to dedicate more time towards his videogame addiction, until he is pulled back to reality by a phone call from the bank, telling him he is in danger of foreclosure.
He finally decides to take action and find himself another job, but in the middle of a nationwide lockdown, the only job he finds is as a shunter, pushing wagons full of cardboard for an online retailer.
Each wagon weighs close to a ton and is pushed in pairs by two workers who get paid per trip rather than an actual salary. Ameen is partnered with Dave who lets him feel the grunt of the job.
The transition could not be more abrupt. From a comfortable health and safety position, he is now laboring intensely throughout the day in a group where he is a praiah due to his background. Everyone hates the safety man.
Too sore to climb the stairs to his gaming room, Ameen decides to share the bed with his now estranged wife, only to be sent away by his 4 year old son, who sees him as an intruder as well.
He is alone, in pain and miserable, but he is determined not to let his family get evicted.
Life will challenge him more however when they increase the wright of the wagons at work, and at home his wife and son get infected with Covid. He is denied contact with his family just when he needs them the most.
But he doesn’t give up and over the weeks he becomes a household name within the group having earned their aproval. His family is now better and If before he didn’t care for them, he is now willing to go all the way to ensure their wellbeing.
But the troubles aren’t over yet. His last paycheck will come on the day the notice from the bank expires, and if anything goes wrong, he will have the bailiffs visiting the next day.
He goes to town to pawn his wedding ring and comes back with a mild cough.
At work he pushes like never before, surprising his peers. But he knows he’s not coming back.
He arrivs at home and finds another notice from the bank. His wife finds him in the guest room, reading the notice, and after exchanging a few words, Ameen gives a subtle smile then collapses on the floor, dead.
