Synopsis/Details
Tom Yocum and Jake Haga, two broke twenty-somethings, stumble across their dealer Freddie’s corpse and a hidden stash of black duffel bags crammed with cash, in a shabby Illinois farmhouse. What begins as a quest for weed quickly escalates into a tangled mess involving Tom, Jake, their eccentric friend T, and the rest of their offbeat crew. When the group decides to use the money to launch a legal weed farm (“Earl Green”), their plans are upended by mounting paranoia, law enforcement scrutiny, and the unwelcome attention of Marco, a Chicago cartel enforcer determined to reclaim the lost fortune.
Desperate to cover their tracks, the friends resort to increasingly half-baked schemes: patching drywall, fending off suspicious cops, laundering money through a fake real estate company, and lying to girlfriends. As they race to keep ahead of both local authorities and hardened criminals, each new move pushes them deeper into trouble and tests their loyalty, inventiveness, and luck.
In the end, the Earls learn that in small-town America, no one is ever far from disaster, but for a day or two, everyone gets to dream big, even if their best-laid plans unravel as absurdly as they began.
