
Synopsis/Details
Newcastle upon Tyne, 1983, a five yr old Opal is at the funeral of her mother and her stillborn brother. Whilst grieving the loss of her mother Opal discovers he abusive father with another woman, and never loved her mother.
Opal's father moves from Newcastle to London to start a new life days after the funeral, where she is subjected to even more abuse. Opal spends all day alone where she discovered books, and she became fascinated with poisonous plants. One day she discovered a particular flower which she rubs all over her fathers clothes, resulting a rash and eventually scars.
In 1908 eighteen yr old Opal is forced into a marriage by her father to a man twenty five years older, to save himself from his debts and take over his business as he doesn't think Opal could manage to run his funeral home. There is a huge fight between Opal and her father as she does not want to marry, but travel and get an education. Not long after the fight Opal's father mysteriously vanishes.
London 1920, a adult Opal is now a mother to young Tommy. There is no love lost between Opal and Thomas her senior husband. After years of abuse from her husband Opal finally snapped and poisons his wine with arsenic. He is now dead and being kept in a zinc lined coffin in the basement of their giant country house.
With Thomas out the picture and a few forged documents Opal is now the sole heir to the Dawson estate.
Vowing to never let a man wrong her again, the collection of coffins in her basement grows.
Drawing the attention of Inspector Kemble, who is on a mission to expose Opal, no matter the cost.
