Synopsis/Details
Jaxie Hart is a chef and the restaurant reviewer for a Seattle TV station and as the girlfriend of the NFL team QB, her life plan is falling into place, like the perfect recipe for success. She's on track to be married in her early thirties with the big 30 looming. But when Brent, breaks up with her because they’re just too different, she doesn't agree. He’s looking for fun, she’s too organized and reminds him of his mom. Out to show him otherwise, she' joins the reality dating show The Husband Hunt, mistakenly believing that Brent is The Husband and she'll prove him wrong. Her best friend Philip is a dress designer, and she intends to feature his work on national TV if she doesn't get voted off the first night. Which she won't because it's Brent! But on her way to the first night cocktail party, Jaxie has a realization. Is it possible Brent isn’t the man for her? When sixteen women show up in limos to meet the Husband, Jaxie realizes the guy she thought was a driver for the show is actually the host and one of the producers--Crane Billings. She's embarrassed she indulged in hours of conversation over lunch thinking he was her driver. Turns out the Husband is Brent's NFL nemesis, Liam Martin, another QB and Crane is partly responsible for setting up Jaxie for anticipated on-camera drama about the NFL rivalry. Jaxie moves into the mansion with the ladies and soon goes on with dates proving she’s adventurous, spontaneous, and fun. At the very least Brent will see the show. After a group horseback riding date and then cooking for everyone in the mansion, Jaxie realizes Crane is the man she feels something for. Thinking his children’s nanny is his wife, she steers clear of the widower. Meanwhile, Crane tries to suppress feelings for Jaxie after winning his heart through her Italian cooking. Jaxie asks to leave the show and Crane assumes she’s still in love with Brent and is going home to him but asks her to wait a week. The show moves to Mammoth and camping dates are the last straw for Jaxie who is not outdoorsy. Crane accepts her decision to leave but after packing, misconceptions are cleared up and Jaxie realizes Crane is not married. Feelings are confessed and admitting they are a good match Crane promises to find her when the show wraps. Jaxie returns to Seattle now knowing recipe substitutions to her life plan made the final dish better. A year later, at Crane and Jaxie's wedding reception, Crane's daughters call her Mama, Liam is secretly in love with Phillip, the designer, but hasn't come out yet. Jaxie and Crane are deliriously happy and with her new cooking show in LA. with Phillip, life is as good as a perfect recipe with tasty substitutions.
