Strengths
There are a few funny moments and bits of absurdist banter that are fun to read, including elements like Cain’s obsession with the mirror and the sudden appearance of the sinkhole, which is random but also fairly unique and surprising. Although the plot becomes difficult to follow once the morlocks appear, in general scenes flowed smoothly from beat to beat, and the pacing of the story felt fitting for the subject matter. Cain is given a clear mission to find Grace at the beginning of the story, and although that mission gets complicated once it seems like Grace doesn’t actually need to be rescued, this clear statement of purpose at the beginning of the film makes it clear what goal the protagonist has that will drive the plot. Putting Grace in more clear danger from an earlier point (or, more clearly showing that Grace isn’t actually in danger, and showing Cain surprised by this) would help keep the plot stay focused on this mission, as would connecting her to Red and Basil’s evil plan a bit more clearly.
