Synopsis/Details
JENNIFER DANIELS (17) is into something very few girls have an interest in: hypnotism. She calls herself "Miss Emerald Eyes", because she wants to use her green eyes to hypnotize people. These days, Jennifer's got her sights on BOBBY SANDERS (17), the handsome captain of Barden High School's basketball team. She's got the biggest crush on Bobby, and she'd do anything to have him as her date for the upcoming "Sweetheart Dance". Unfortunately for Jennifer, Bobby already has a date for the dance; unfortunately for Bobby, his date just happens to be SUSIE SIMPSON (17), an aspiring actress and Bobby's very spoiled girlfriend.
One day Jennifer asks her classmate and best friend KIMBERLY FREEMAN (17), another girl who's into hypnotism, to hypnotize Bobby into being Jennifer's date for the dance. Jennifer would do it herself, but her hypnotic powers haven't gelled yet. Kimberly is reluctant at first, not wanting to interfere with Bobby and Susie's date, but decides to help Jennifer. When Kimberly meets Bobby after class, she invites him to chat with her for a while, but Bobby rushes to catch the school bus. On the bus, a jealous Susie accuses Bobby of seeing someone behind her back; she warns Bobby that they'll be repercussions for him if he starts seeing someone other than her.
Later, Bobby and Susie arrive at Burger Queen. Bobby leaves Susie by herself in her Porsche to get the both of them something to eat. Surprisingly he meets Kimberly there, and the two of them have a nice talk about his basketball team. Bobby later notices the strange Egyptian-styled medallion around Kimberly's neck. At this point Kimberly hypnotizes Bobby, putting him under her spell. After getting back to Susie, she gets mad at Bobby for being a few minutes late; they take off.
At the Sweetheart Dance, Jennifer tells Kimberly about she being nervous about meeting Bobby. Kimberly hypnotizes Jennifer in an effort to calm Jennifer down. Bobby arrives, and Jennifer starts talking to him. But when she says the "magic" word, Bobby falls into a trance. Jennifer waits for him to fall in love with her; instead, Bobby sets his eyes on Kimberly. Susie arrives at the dance, ready to be swept off her feet by Bobby. But she gets the shock of her life when she sees Bobby sweep Kimberly off her feet. Susie lets him have it, while Jennifer is stunned to see Bobby with Kimberly instead of her. Jennifer tells Kimberly how upset she is about the whole thing. Kimberly tries to convince her that she did hypnotize Bobby into being Jennifer's date, but Jennifer will have none of it.
The next day Bobby is sitting next to Kimberly. He's smitten with love for her, even going as far as giving Kimberly a bunch of red roses he bought the other night. Kimberly tries to tell him that he's really under a spell, but soon enough the two of them get into an unlikely kiss.
At the cafeteria, Bobby and Kimberly have their lunch. They're truly in love with each other, but Jennifer lurks a few tables away. When Kimberly goes out in the hallway to freshen up, Jennifer makes her move. She makes an attempt to hypnotize Bobby with her green eyes. Meanwhile, out in the hallway, Kimberly's excited about being with Bobby and plans to take him to her house so she can teach him how to hypnotize. Little does she know that Susie overhears her talking; when she hears hypnotism mentioned, Susie realizes that Bobby's been hypnotized by Kimberly.
Kimberly returns to the cafeteria, and she's surprised to see a hypnotized Bobby; seems that Jennifer's gotten her groove back, and she tells Kimberly her plans to have Bobby as her boyfriend. Susie storms into the cafe, and she snaps Bobby out of the trance. Bobby wonders what's going on, and Susie tells him everything. Later, out in the hallway, Bobby is upset with Kimberly for trying to play with his head. She apologizes for what happened, and Bobby winds up forgiving Kimberly (on the condition that she uses hypnotism only for practical purposes). The two of them decide it's best to be just friends. When they re-enter the cafe, they're surprised to see that Jennifer has hypnotized Susie into being nicer to Bobby. Bobby and Susie rekindle their relationship. Jennifer feels bad about trying to mess up what Bobby and Susie have, and for involving Kimberly in the situation. The two girls make up and become friends again, but Jennifer feels like she's got no one now to call her own.
In the hallway DANNY RODRIGUEZ (17), another of Jennifer's classmates, talks to her and volunteers to be her date. Jennifer's overjoyed, for she didn't need hypnotism to get Danny to date her. Bobby invites everyone to the championship game, and they all exit the school to go there.
