Synopsis/Details
What Remains follows Zach Killian, a 29-year-old man grappling with the recent death of his wife Lisa, only to discover that their entire relationship was built on lies and revenge. Already struggling with suicidal thoughts and facing eviction from his home, Zach's world further unravels when his ex-girlfriend Amy Ellison unexpectedly re-enters his life, determined to help him despite his resistance. As Zach battles depression and a broken leg from an accident caused by Amy, she becomes his reluctant caretaker. Their forced proximity begins to unravel years of buried history, including their own teenage romance that ended abruptly and mysteriously. With the help of his returned best friend Adeel and under Amy's persistent care, Zach slowly begins to emerge from his shell, even as he fights against accepting help. The story takes a dramatic turn when Amy reveals a long-held secret: Lisa, her sister, had an affair with Zach's father years ago and only married Zach as an act of revenge. This revelation shatters Zach's already fragile world and threatens to destroy his renewed connection with Amy, who had kept this truth hidden throughout his marriage to her sister. Meanwhile, a legal battle emerges over Zach's house as Amy discovers her father may be trying to illegally evict Zach from a property that should legally be his through Lisa's family trust. This development forces Zach and Amy to confront not only their past but also their feelings for each other as they fight to save what remains of his life. Through flashbacks, we see the origin of Zach and Amy's relationship as teenagers, highlighting the depth of their connection and the tragedy of their separation. The story explores themes of forgiveness, second chances, and the weight of secrets, all while asking whether past betrayals can be overcome for the sake of future happiness. The pilot episode sets up the central conflicts and relationships while establishing the show's tone of dramatic tension balanced with moments of warmth and humor. It ends with the revelation about Zach's house, suggesting that his journey to rebuild his life will be complicated by both emotional and legal battles ahead.
