Synopsis/Details
While Jeremy, having a restless night turns toward his bathroom door the light comes on behind it and the door swings open by itself. As the sheets peel away from Jeremy a change comes over him. He stares around his room and at his reflection in the mirror as if he’s seeing it for the first time. Appearing over his mother minutes later and startling his parents awake he signs to her that he’s had an accident and wet his bed; but while his bath is drawn by his father, Joan sees to the changing of Jeremy’s bed sheets only to find they aren’t wet at all and shocked by the bloody French knife under his pillow. An investigation leads to the discovery of the pet cat’s head resting on the kitchen counter and the urine Jeremy was soaked in belonging to the cat. Jeremy has no memory of the incident which leads Joan to believe even more that Michael’s spirit has returned. She thinks so much on it she can’t sleep and relives the memory of the day she discovered Michael’s intention to murder school mates, her, his father and brother, and how his scheme had led to his own death. The next believed possession of Jeremy leads to police involvement after Jeremy is hospitalized by what the investigating detective from Crimes Against Children believes to be child abuse. While Jeremy lies in his hospital bed and his parents wait for the attending doctor to make his rounds they make contact with JACQUES, a hospital orderly and native Haitian who reveals he has seen this many times before in Haiti. With the reading of a lion’s tooth Jacques convinces Joan that Jeremy is indeed possessed by a demon, which angers non-believing Tom. With the help of the orderly’s friend, a blind African “who sees,” called BADRU, a magic one like Jeremy, the demon is removed from the boy after an exorcism that scares the pants off Joan and leaves hospital personnel unnerved. Badru warns Tom and Joan that the demon spirit will return and hound them until the day they die, or it dies in the body of another before it can escape. The following days find both Jacques and Badru suffering violent deaths and Joan living a nightmare her husband still can’t believe in. The night Badru’s spirit appears to Jeremy and explains to him where the demon waits and what he must do to defeat him Jeremy speaks for the first time without the fear that had controlled him, feeling a little evil, himself.
