Synopsis/Details
Greed, treachery, betrayal, and ultimately, redemption are the core themes of Bird-Dog, (An old “grifter” expression meaning “To cause a distraction”). An old-fashioned, action-filled heist/buddy film in the tradition of films like The Italian Job, The Sting, and Sleepers. Partly set in the dark seedy underworld of organized crime in the 1980's, Bird-Dog is told from the point-of-view of Jeremy Reyes, an incarcerated felon. Using elements of narration, pop-culture, humour, and pathos, to weave the tale of four childhood friends brought together after a decade, for an opportunity that could change all of their lives, namely the theft of fifty million dollars directly from the vaults of the Federal Reserve. But since the money is fitted with the newest high-tech tracking devices, that makes this a little trickier than your average heist. Local Mob boss Vincent “Pops” Abrahan, currently incarcerated and recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, sees the money as his chance at immortality, as his chance to go down in history as the mastermind of the greatest theft ever. But how will his son, second-in-command, and not un-coincidentally, resident neighbourhood sociopath and germaphobe, Mr.Fingers, react to all this? Will this be his opportunity to hang his “brother”, and third-in-command, Marlon McKenna out to dry? It would certainly help him regain favour in his father's eyes and maybe even replace Marlon as his father's obvious favourite?
