Blood And Drumming

Page Count:

Age Rating:

In present day London, two sisters with contrasting personalities, find themselves in the path of a brutal serial killer, as a MET Inspector and a mysterious man in a black hat close in.

The story is set in modern day North London. Two sisters that live together, go about their usual lives, unaware that one of them is in the path of a savage serial murderer.
Abigail is dealing with an unrewarding life, in which drumming is her only escape. She has issues with trust, and always sees the world from a negative point of view. Ominous dreams she’s been having, aren’t helping either.
Isabell, on the other hand, is too trusting, and generally of a cheery disposition. Both sisters have a love of vampire movies, although Isabell is more drawn to the lighter side of the genre. Isabell actively engages in vampire fan sites and forums, creating her own weekly videos on her favourite vampire movie saga.
A MET Inspector is investigating a series of brutal murders, but struggles to get anywhere, until a victim’s laptop leads him to a boarded up house. There, he has an encounter with three individuals, any one of which could be the killer he’s after. Two of the individuals escape, but one is left to answer the Inspector’s questions.
Evidence from the house leads to connections being made to the past victim’s, but also to Isabell.
The inspector makes his way to the sisters flat, and in separate incidents, encounters the same individuals that had escaped him earlier. The two encounters are very different, but both will lead to violence and death.

Main Characters:

Abigail - Negative, cold and sarcastic, with an alternative style. She doesn’t trust strangers easily. She enjoys drumming along to her favourite rock and metal bands. She has ominous dreams about herself and her sister. Loves violent vampire movies.
Isabell - Positive, cheery and over the top, with a smart, fashionable look. She loves engaging with online vampire fan communities. She is quite naive and trusting, always giving people the benefit of the doubt. Looking for love.
Nathaniel - A handsome well spoken man when in his human form. He is over one hundred years old, but he has learned how to use technology, and people to his advantage. He hunts on vampire fan sites for potential victims. He has charm, but also a quick temper.
Inspector Harkin - A middle-aged Inspector with not much in his life other than work. Loves his car. Logical and sceptical.
Helsy / The man in the black hat - Creepy and weird. Live in a run down house. Has a crossbow and wears a large rimmed black hat. No family or friends. Good with computers.
Dominic - Nathaniel’s loyal servant. Computer literate. He is Nathaniel’s online persona. Nervous, twitchy and weak.
Gregor - An acquaintance of Nathaniel. A watcher. Reporting to an unknown higher power. Full of himself. On Nathaniel’s side but it’s not obvious.
Chief Superintendent Kessler - Inspector Harkin’s boss. Normal and by the book.

My Aim:

I wanted to make a good modern vampire story, using my own experiences and influenced by classic movies of the horror genre. I also wanted to write a story that could be expanded into sequels. I have included references to a larger unknown future threat, and I have only hinted at character backgrounds, leaving them to be explored more. I wanted it to feel like a glimpse into a hidden vampire world, and an introduction to a larger universe where they exist.
