Synopsis/Details
Todd Craig is a new resident of the declining township of Calber Island. ...In a place where the average age is 65 and "if you weren't born here, you don't belong here" - Todd stands out as an outsider. He'd inherited a house on the island from his senior officer in the military, and moved to Calber Island hoping to find a home where he could retire peacefully. But some things aren't meant to be... As our story opens, a storm system is approaching the island and Todd is tasked with overseeing the community's evacuation. Unfortunately, flooding causes the only bridge to the mainland to collapse, and a handful of senior residents (who already dislike Todd) are stranded on the island. During the period of isolation, Todd begins to notice strange things around town. It's as if history is coming alive in their own backyards as remnants of Viking visitors seem to have been left only yesterday. Meanwhile, two children are found hiding in Todd's barn - and by all appearances... they've only just stepped into the twenty-first century. The children clearly have suffered some past trauma... and claim that dangerous visitors are hiding in the woods. But when Todd believes their story, he finds himself at odds with the rest of the townsfolk - who seek a scapegoat for the growing list of misfortunes that have befallen Calber Island. Todd holds himself responsible for protecting a community that doesn't want his help... but is he right in his growing belief that a Viking attack is imminent? Or is he crazy, as his neighbors presume? As the story progresses, the Calber Island locals will learn the value of positive change. ...That a stagnant lifestyle will only result in eventual conflict as detrimental as a Viking clan being dropped into the twenty-first century.
