Synopsis/Details
Crap Game is a comedy about twin brothers, Rick and David Camp. Rick, the elder, is spontaneous and individualistic – a loner and a risk taker. David is a rooted, family man, though he does enjoy taking risks, as well, especially in the form of betting, with his neighbor and lifelong friend, Henry Kimmel.
Rick is on the run, after allegedly swindling a Louisiana casino out of $29,000. They claim he cheated at roulette. Rick thinks otherwise and is trying to lose the three bikers the casino sent in pursuit.
David, a laid off auto assembly line worker, is frustrated over his inability to find a new job, despite numerous interviews for entry-level positions, all of which end terribly.
When an unsettled argument erupts at Henry’s weekly poker game, an outrageous and unexpected wager is made between him and David. Specifically, David bets $50,000 (which he does not have) that he can go the month of December – without going.
Unfortunately, for David, he must continue his search for work and live up to family responsibilities, as the bet progresses and becomes unbearable to endure. He also must contend with his high-school-age daughter’s desire to skip college, for a career in automotive repair; his wife’s infatuation for her yoga instructor and the taunts of neighbor Henry.
Over the course of the month, the intended veil of secrecy shrouding the bet deteriorates, to the point where virtually the entire town becomes engaged, much to David’s horror.
As the end of December draws near, Rick unexpectedly shows up at David’s door, unwelcomed. The bikers trace Rick to David’s home and only relent when David offers to pay the money owed with the proceeds of the $50,000 bet.
The Camps and bikers attend the Kimmel’s New Year’s Eve party, where the winner will be determined. Prior to the event, Rick makes amends with David, by returning a prized, novelty roulette wheel cuff link, he has denied stealing since childhood.
At midnight, David wins but is lured by Henry into extending it for a second month, for double the payoff. Without the expected money, Rick, in danger again, flees with the bikers in pursuit.
With one day to go, on the revised bet, David fails to contain himself, at a funeral.
Henry attempts to collect, but this time is swayed by David into accepting one final, immediate wager, using the memento Rick returned. David wins, his debt is cleared, and his financial future is assisted by the $29,000 Rick has thoughtfully mailed to him.
