Synopsis/Details
Eric Cage, guilt-ridden over the drowning death of his six-year-old son, Ethan, three years prior, is asked to retrieve the body of a friend's son, who, while scuba diving, perished aboard a mysterious shipwreck discovered off the coast of Boston. Eric, a former U.S. Navy diver, is initially reluctant, but ultimately coaxed into accepting by his live-in lover, Urabelle Jones, and the ghost of the young diver's father, who died in a failed attempt to extricate his son from the wreck. The retrieval mission is foiled by a competing group of lowly divers, the Sea Raiders, who scavenge and strip shipwrecks for profit. They succeed in beating Eric and his team to what turns out to be the remains of a World-War-Two-era German U-boat, but suffer horrific losses when the spirits inhabiting it turn one diver against another. The second attempt by Eric's group gets them aboard the sub, where they are confronted by its unearthly captain and the satanic spirits from a second, adjacent, much older wreck. Combined, they intend to resurrect the sub and guide it to its original mission: wreak nuclear havoc on the city of Boston. Eric and Urabelle subdue the spirits with an outrageous deception and successfully retrieve the body of the lost diver. Shortly thereafter Eric is visited and forgiven by Ethan's ghost. He then honors his son's final request by returning to its rightful place, an artifact wrongfully taken from the U-boat on the original dive.
