Synopsis/Details
RIGO and AMANDA are an elderly couple living in El Paso, Texas, having escaped from Ciudad Juárez after a drug cartel tried to extort their business. They live a quiet, boring life, wishing to see their daughter EVANGELINA and her family more often. Instead, they only get visits from BEATRIZ, their neighborhood Avon Lady. One day, they see that JARQUIN, a young man has moved in front of their house but things go south when they see that he’s throwing a party and making too much noise. They try to get him to keep quiet but instead, he invites them inside. They notice the guests all have guns but given they are in Texas, they try to not make a big deal out of it and end up having a good time. Soon, Jarquin, Rigo, and Amanda become good friends and go on short trips together, buying each other things. He asks them for a bizarre favor: Deliver a package to a house. Once there, they are attacked by a criminal called CARTER. Rigo almost suffers a heart attack at that moment but manages to calm down. Carter realizes they are with Jarquin and lets them go. They start to wonder if Jarquin is such a good person after all but their doubts are calmed when they see he has caught a criminal trying to break into their home. They are suspected of wrongdoing by OFFICER DANIELS, a detective doing a stakeout in front of Carter’s house but can’t hold them down for anything. Satisfied with the outcome, Jarquin lets them borrow his beach house for a family visit. As the couple leaves, VENUSTIANO, a neighbor of theirs, breaks into their house. Evangelina, her husband GUSTAVO, and their daughter HAYLEY visit them at Jarquin’s beach house with Rigo and Amanda saying they rented it with their savings. The visit goes well but soon, Evangelina tells them that the two of them must live their life well and not worry about her or her family. They are all now adults with the freedom to do whatever they want. Back home, they realize that Jarquin has killed Venustiano, finding a private eye identification on him. Jarquin confesses who he is: a small-time drug dealer on the run from the cartels because he ratted out names. Rigo and Amanda don’t want to be close to him anymore but he forces them into another favor after threatening their family. They must do another delivery with a friend of his, LUIS. They get to Luis’ house and discover it’s an ambush. They manage to escape just in time but with Rigo badly wounded. They get home but they’re attacked by Officers Daniels, turning out to be a collaborator with Jarquin. Amanda is the only one who can escape and must take Rigo somewhere safe on time. She’s rescued by KATHY, Venustiano’s wife who was also working as a PI but is fatally wounded. She gives Amanda a gun and her car so she can take Rigo to safety. Jarquin chases Amanda across the street, ending in a car crash where he’s exposed, and finally, Amanda delivers a killing blow. Rigo recovers in the hospital and Amanda tells him to not wait around anymore, they must escape together and live their best lives. They escape to Mexico where they are visited by Evangelina and all have a great time together.
