Four billion years ago, a meteor strike violently ejects a piece of Earth’s molten surface into space, sending it on an evolutionary journey spanning millennia.
In the present day, this ancient fragment returns, crashing dramatically to Earth, instantly drawing military attention.
LIEUTENANTS TANQUERY “TANK” WILLIAMS, 42, and ALICIA “DASH” LASKY, 35, transport the meteorite to the heavily secured and secretive R.A.C.E. (The Reanimation and Assimilation Center for Extraterrestrials) facility, overseen by the pragmatic and disciplined DIRECTOR GENEVIEVE PASCAL, 48.
Upon arrival, Pascal is informed by the casual yet resourceful station manager, Jack Haskell, about the mysterious new specimen.
Within R.A.C.E., tensions rise between veteran scientist DR. HEINRICH HAUSER, 60, and ambitious researcher DR. TARU INARO, 25. Inaro admits she covertly orchestrated the meteorite’s arrival for unauthorized experiments, explicitly aiming to fuse human DNA with the alien organism. Despite Hauser’s strong objections regarding the ethical implications and unpredictable outcomes, Inaro proceeds.
Tragedy strikes quickly. Inaro is killed in a horrific incident when the organism emits a lethal sonic pulse, shattering glass and scattering its fragments. Security footage leaves the team shaken, and Hauser theorizes that the organism might not be purely alien—it could have originated from Earth itself, having evolved separately in space.
As paranoia and suspicion intensify, Hauser himself becomes the organism’s next victim, fatally frozen and shattered, signaling the organism’s rapid evolution. Panic spreads among the facility’s members, and ethical debates erupt over humanity’s role in creating and potentially destroying life.
OPERATIONS MANAGER JACK HASKELL, 47, growing increasingly distrustful of the situation, contacts HQ STATION COMMANDER DRUMMOND, 55, suspecting a deeper conspiracy.
Meanwhile, GARY COCHRANE, 42, a covert operative with unclear motives, infiltrates the facility, further heightening internal suspicions and tension.
In an unsettling twist, the organism demonstrates intelligence and possible remorse by meticulously reassembling Hauser’s shattered body. This ambiguous act deepens the ethical dilemma, pushing the team to question whether the creature possesses genuine consciousness or simply predatory instincts.
Attempting containment, Pascal devises a strategy to lure and capture the organism using food and shelter. However, the creature evades capture by showcasing its extraordinary adaptability, becoming nearly invisible.
Frustration and fear led to conflict among team members, notably between Tank, Dash, and Pascal. Amidst rising tensions, Cochrane takes matters into his own hands, kidnapping the organism and subjecting it to a controversial vacuum test to determine its capacity to survive in space. Pascal is horrified by the ethical breach, confronting Cochrane as the organism fights desperately for survival under oxygen-depleted conditions.
When the creature seems to succumb, the group believes it dead—only to witness it suddenly burst from its restraints, resilient and more evolved. The situation spirals out of control when Tank, increasingly desperate and fearful, violently clashes with Pascal and Dash. Tank shoots Dash, injuring her but not critically, prompting further conflict and uncertainty. Ultimately, the creature escapes the vacuum chamber violently, killing Tank in a terrifying and visceral encounter.
Pascal manages to subdue the beast temporarily using a taser, but the emotional and physical toll is immense.
Military reinforcements, led by Colonel Drummond, arrive to secure the organism. Pascal, Cochrane, and Dash confront Drummond, who assures them of safe containment.
However, a botched attempt to tranquilize the creature results in chaos, during which Dash heroically attempts to calm the organism. Despite her bravery, Dash is accidentally killed by the tranquilizer darts. Pascal, devastated and enraged by Dash’s death and the reckless actions of Drummond, confronts and tranquilizes him in retaliation.
Cochrane reveals a deeper emotional connection to Dash, adding another layer of tragedy to the unfolding crisis. Finally, Drummond privately admits to Pascal that the entire operation is part of a clandestine endeavor funded by unknown entities. Pascal is left stun-ned and suspicious, the implications of her contamination by the organism’s particles looming ominously in lab results.
As Pascal grapples with these revelations, she faces physical survival and profound ethical and existential questions about humanity’s right to meddle with life. After inhaling Inaro’s atomized blood, she discovers that her body’s chemistry has changed, and the harsh winter no longer affects her.
