Synopsis/Details
As you may or may not know, extraterrestrial objects strike the Earth’s atmosphere on a daily basis. Most burn up harmlessly before reaching the surface of our planet, but not all. When three small, fast replicating carnivorous organisms from outer space survive the entry into our oxygen rich atmosphere, they waste no time in becoming a lethal menace to all living things in a remote desert area of the American Southwest. After the first fatal encounter, local residents band together in an attempt to eradicate the introduction of this lethal invasive species on Earth. This story contains remorseless blood sucking outer space critters about the size of a door mat, pickup trucks, good old boys, a few laughs and a remote desert location. There is also clandestine government agency involved which doesn't officially exist, but arrives on the scene to cover up the event in their unending efforts to protect the public from potentially harmful knowledge. The hopeful and sanitized ending of this story is punctuated by Toby Keith's "Should've Been A Cowboy" as the credits roll. I had the town of Marathon, Texas in mind when I wrote this MOW (or feature if more pixels are added). Why Marathon? Well, I've actually been there and really love the area. The quality of the light and the scenery are outstanding. If for some reason, Marathon (pronounced Mar'a'thin by most of its 427 local residents) is not available, perhaps somewhere else in the American Southwest will do - The more remote the better. I wrote Invasive Species with a MOW in mind, but obviously more pixels could be added if required.

The Writer: John Hunter

My bare foot childhood was spent in the coastal low country of South Georgia. In this semi-rural version of Camelot, the truth was often stretched and embellished as an innocent pastime by members of my family and those around me. So, as you can clearly see, I was raised wrong and my storytelling is not entirely my fault. After graduation from college, I served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Latin America. I later worked in construction management, big ticket sales, commercial graphics, and as a packaging design consultant. I now live in Central Florida under the shade of a large oak tree with my long time personal micromanager, the lovely Ms Susan, and enjoy telling a wide variety of… Go to bio
