Synopsis/Details
A sheriff’s truck and a snowplow drive up a snow-filled mountain road after a blizzard. Heading for Diesel Dick’s truck stop, they instead discover its smoking ruins, burnt bodies and one survivor.
Jumping back to three days earlier, Allison drives to the truck stop to pick up her young daughter, Cordelia. The child has been staying with Diesel Dick, Allison’s father-in-law and owner of the truck stop. Allison battles a painkiller addiction due to injuries received in the car accident that killed her husband. Through therapy and treatment, she is regaining custody of her daughter.
After an attack on a remote military facility in the frozen north, a young soldier, Yates, and his unit commander, Venton, are tasked with transporting some mysterious canisters. These containers hold frozen samples of living alien creatures dug from the icy tundra.
On a snowy mountain road as a fierce blizzard approaches, Yates and Venton’s military van crashes into Allison’s car. One of the containers is ruptured, freeing the small creature inside.
Allison rescues the two injured men. Yates awakens, but Venton is comatose. To escape the deadly storm, she takes them to the truck stop. Unnoticed, some insect-like legs protrude from Venton’s mouth as the escaped creature performs some grisly work inside.
Allison receives a chilly reception from Diesel while Cordelia remains wary of her mother’s mental health. When the blizzard hits, other travelers take shelter at the truck stop. The storm knocks out the phone lines and makes the roads impassable. With no cell phone service in the mountains, they are truly isolated.
The mysterious creature lurking in Venton’s mouth burrows deep into his head before bursting from the unconscious man’s eye. This is the Spiderlike, an alien spider about the size of a fist.
Yates shoots at the beast as it escapes, accidentally killing two stranded travelers instead. When the others arrive at the scene, they believe Yates is a murderer and try to kill him without giving him a chance to explain. Yates is forced to run and hide.
The creature grows rapidly, stealthily feeding on rats and a cat.
When Yates is caught, he warns them about the Spiderlike, but is executed by the boyfriend of one of his accidental victims.
Those remaining turn on each other as the Spiderlike continues to pick them off. The foul beast gets larger as it feeds on its prey.
A fire breaks out, originating from an unexpected source, and flames devour the truck stop. Allison, Cordelia and Diesel work together to kill the Spiderlike as the place becomes an inferno.
After the three-day blizzard is over, the lone survivor is discovered by the sheriff and the snowplow guy.
