Synopsis/Details
Ross is a young paramedic whose world takes a sudden tragic turn on what should be one of the best days of his life. Just as he is about to propose to his girlfriend, he suffers a massive heart attack and dies.
Ross awakens in the afterlife and learns that the Grim Reaper actually does exist. But not as the skeletal creature of mythology, instead it’s a group of non-living individuals who look and act just like ordinary people. Essentially undead civil servants, they walk among the living, unnoticed, as they perform their grim work of reaping the souls of people when they are destined to die.
Ross receives another shock when he finds out his life has ended decades before he was supposed to die. He learns one of the reapers suffered a tragic mishap and accidentally reaped Ross’s soul. This caused Ross to be killed instantly, cheating him of the life he was fated to live.
Ross is befriended by Dodd, an experienced reaper who doubts that Ross’s premature expiration was an accident. Dodd tries to help Ross find a way to regain his life but warns him that there’s only a short amount of time before his decades-early death becomes permanent.
As Ross and Dodd seek a solution for Ross’s too-soon demise, fatal accidents suddenly plague the reapers. Ross is surprised to discover that though the reapers aren’t truly alive, they can be killed.
When the growing number of mysterious reaper fatalities prevents Ross from getting his life back, he and Dodd suspect they may not be coincidental. The two realize that if Ross is to have any hope of returning to the life he was destined to live, they will have to discover and stop whatever is killing the reapers.
Racing against time, their investigation leads to Morton, a scheming madman who prevented his own death with an unusual ability. Following a mysterious voice only he can hear, Morton advances his plot to its dreadful conclusion.
In the end Ross has a horrifying decision to make when he discovers that his premature death and the life of his grieving fiancée-to-be are connected to a conspiracy to kill thousands of innocent people.
