Synopsis/Details
In the pilot episode of this sitcom autistic grad student Jake faces a rigid student advisor who gets on him about correcting professor's mid-class, gets grossed out by the scatalogical musings of his best friend and has a dire misunderstanding with a new romance who claims to be sapiosexual; all culminating together at the most chaotic social gathering of his young life when he tries to make a good impression on his potential coworkers at the University as he prepares to become a professor. Jake is a complicated, yet lovable character who can best be described as an autistic anti-hero somewhat like Sheldon on the Big Bang Theory. But unlike a lot of young autistic people he isn't being coddled by parents or a well-paying STEM career so he must figure out the trials of life through his own unique perspective. He believes strongly in structure and intellect in many funny ways and gets even more hilarious when he is wrong or thrown off his plans as life tends to happen. He may be one of the smartest, most factual people in any room he's in, but when it comes to putting things into practice, he's a total mess. It's a mix of conversational humor like in "Curb Your Enthusiasm" with the clever storytelling of "Modern Family" and some of the humor and cuteness of "Love on the Spectrum." Some of the friends and frenemies in Jake’s life include his best friend Panu, a spacey Filipino who can change the topic or zero in on one at will, Kacey, a lover turned friend who is a sapiosexual firecracker and Bernice, his unamused student advisor who holds his future career in her hands.
