Synopsis/Details
“Parker and Barrow” explores the origins and influences on Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow and presents their story in a new light: What if Bonnie and Clyde were not responsible for all of the bank robberies they were accused of and what if they weren’t the cold blood killers authorities claimed them to be? The movie opens with Clyde Barrow’s bleak, poverty-filled childhood. As his father struggled to find work during the Great Depression, the family wandered like walking ghosts from town to town. Along the way, young Clyde witnesses first-hand brutal acts of racism and intolerance of the poor that will shape his view of the world in the years to come. Clyde later learns to make a living by thievery and fighting for money alongside his older brother. His hatred for injustice and authority fuels his rage and his lifelong quest of getting even. Meanwhile, just a few miles away, a young Bonnie Parker faces similar hardship in her upbringing when her father passes away leaving the family penniless and forced to move into a poor Dallas suburb. Although a promising student, Bonnie is forced to work odd jobs to make ends meet and would-be suitors from the pool of local thugs. Her passion for life wastes away until her fateful introduction to her soul mate Clyde. Clyde’s criminal past catches up to him and he is locked away in the dreaded “ Eastham Prison”. As Bonnie waits for him, she drowns her sorrow in writing poems, describing the wounds of her soul. When Clyde escapes and she learns of the inhuman treatment that he endured, Bonnie joins him in his war against the government and banks responsible for people’s misery. Ted Hinton, an honest cop trying to survive in a world of corruption, looks like the pair’s only hope as he uncovers evidence indicating that Parker and Barrow may not be the only ones to blame for the many banks robberies striking America. Could Parker and Barrow be victims of a gang of copycats posing as them to commit their own crimes? Trying to prevent Parker and Barrow’s inevitable death, Hinton races against the clock and the growing legend the world knew as Bonnie and Clyde.
