Synopsis/Details
The screenplay explores circumstances surrounding the appearance of a mysterious
apparition that the media nicknames ”The Highgate Vampire” and starts in Victorian
Era London with the hanging of a man, wrongly accused of the murder of the woman
he loves. Despite his cries claiming his innocence, the man is publicly hanged. With
hate-filled shouts of the crowd rising all around the square, the man dies with a
terrible sensation of injustice: A violent death, legend says, vampires are raised from.
In 1967, on the verge of the sexual revolution outbreak, students Molly and Jane
follow a deserted road on their way home after deciding to take a short cut through
the Highgate cemetery. They witness the terrifying sight of ghostly figures walking
the pathways and chasing them. The teenagers manage to escape, but this strange
occurrence will be the beginning of one of the strangest unsolved mysteries ever!
The next day, a municipal worker finds several animals drained of their blood in the
cemetery alleyways and calls on William Archer, an anti-conformist priest who often
clashes with church leaders and who became immersed in paranormal mysteries
through an old friend that practiced exorcisms. Archer’s investigation into the
Highgate mystery intensifies when the now excommunicated priest endeavors to help
Emma, a beautiful model suffering from sleepwalking who presents all the symptoms
of vampirism and evil possession.
News of the phenomena spreads and ultimately comes to the attention of Aidan
Blackwood, a paranormal investigator and Wicca expert, who becomes obsessed with
unveiling the mystery and is convinced that the Highgate occurrences are a
political/religious manipulation. Unknowingly in pursuit of the same cause, Archer
and Blackwood eventually cross paths in this mysterious case which leads the
protagonists to a terrible downward spiral of destruction and madness.
