Synopsis/Details
Aubrey is trapped in a small town and an abusive marriage, living solely for her daughter, Izzy. Each week Aubrey is tasked with buying a lottery ticket because she hit it once. And while husband Zeke's away on a hunting trip with buddy Justin, she hits it big -- for $6.5 million. She hides the ticket in a bank safe deposit box where best friend Cat works, scheming to burn it in front of Zeke on the day of its expiration. Cat proposes a playbook where she doesn't burn the ticket and gets to keep the money, Zeke's demise. Aubrey’s not onboard, not even when she catches Zeke cheating with grocery clerk Kayla at a motel. She instead demands freedoms denied in exchange for her silence and Justin’s recuperative stay at their home -- she brutalized his manhood when he came onto her at the motel. An emboldened Aubrey also removes the ticket from the safe deposit box. Cat, fearing her motives and lusting after the ticket for her own family, instructs husband Justin to search the house for it. Reveling in her newfound freedoms, Aubrey offers Cat half the lottery ticket to help execute the double murder of their husbands, spilling about the motel sexcapades. But Justin accidentally falls searching for the ticket, his death leading to a spiritual awakening in Zeke. Aubrey seeks proof that he’s changed, handing over the lottery ticket as a test. Furious at the loss of her husband and the ticket -- and money to raise her three boys -- Cat takes it out on Kayla at the grocery, prompting her arrest. Zeke bails her out, Cat bitterly trying to seduce him on the drive home. When Cat arrives home, she's hysterical -- Zeke raped her, she had to defend herself. Aubrey finds her husband dead in the SUV, his skull crushed. She doesn't want to believe he was capable and Cat explains the cops will think the same, she'll lose her boys. The women drive Zeke's body to the motel, planning to frame Kayla, but a conflicted Aubrey contacts the police. Five years later. Cat shows up at Aubrey's new suburban home, wanting what's hers after years in prison, her boys in Aubrey's custody -- what's that worth? She leaves and Izzy asks if she and the boys can go to the movies. Aubrey counters no, understanding there's a new enemy on the doorstep, threatening to not play responsibly.
