Synopsis/Details
A dark comedy set in the Missouri Ozarks, “Show Me” combines the absurd comedic violence of “Deadpool” with the seedy political corruption of “L.A. Confidential.”
Deputy Sheriff Rie Kitamura -- somewhat out of place in the Ozarks, but never outmatched or outgunned -- and her boyfriend, Ben Hughes, a reporter with several old scores to settle, find their budding romance side-tracked by Ben’s latest investigation. They combine forces to free a falsely imprisoned construction contractor who’s been forced to oversee the construction of American Jesus, a two-hundred-foot statue of Christ towering over the resort town of Baxter, Missouri.
Arrayed against the intrepid duo are an unholy alliance of corrupt politicians, an unscrupulous CEO, a greedy televangelist, and two inept hitmen whose appetite for fast food far exceeds their aptitude for murder.
Televangelist Tobias “Holy” Roller wants to buy a Gulfstream G650 so he can spread God’s word in style. Not wanting to make a candid appeal for private jet money to his televised flock, he fleeces them indirectly by raising funds to build American Jesus and a lucrative housing project called Gated Galilee. Desperate to cut corners, he partners with the CEO of a for-profit prison corporation offering cheap convict labor and suspect building materials for rock bottom prices and three corrupt state officials who want to fill their coffers with Gated Galilee money.
Things get out of hand as Rie and Ben’s efforts force the bad guys into a bloody series of botched cover-ups and bungled murders. As Rie and Ben press on, they become targets for elimination on the eve of American Jesus’ unveiling. The Lord has His own plans, however, and metes out ironic justice in His own inimitable style.
