Synopsis/Details
Former Boston homicide detective Jack Kennedy nearly drinks himself into oblivion after the death of his wife. Not long after that, he kills a girl in a drug raid after an all-night bender to continue his dark downward spiral. He contemplates resignation but is talked out of it by his long-time partner. That is is the background to the next phase of Jack's life. In a desperate move to save himself, he takes a job in a small, unremarkable Florida town on the edge of the Everglades. Hoping to coast into retirement, find peace, regain the trust he once had in himself and rebuild his fragile mental health, he eventually settles into a mundane but welcome daily routine in the sleepy town. He hasn't given up the booze entirely but he starts to believe he may actually be finding some kind of balance and redemption. That is, until he investigates the bizarre death of three mummified bodies found in the Everglades. As the mystery and investigation unfolds, the demons he tried to leave behind resurface but Jack doesn't retreat from them this time. He finds himself partnered with FBI profiler Kate Burke, an unsuspecting pawn sent to Florida on her first field assignment. While Jack and Kate investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding the bodies, they are kept under close observation by high-level government players connected to the case. Blind to the strings being pulled around them, Jack and Kate uncover a CIA black-ops genetic engineering program run by a ruthless Operations Director forty years earlier. Their investigation leads them back to Boston where Jack seeks a personal redemption for the sense of failure and guilt he felt when he left. But they find their lives in danger when the people responsible for the program--a sitting US Senator and an FBI Deputy Director--decide they are getting too close to the truth.

The Writer: Brent Rouleau

Here to rep the nation's capitol: Ottawa. I'm an acting teacher, published poet and short story writer who made the switch to screenplays in recent years. I've been a theatre director/actor/designer since sometime in the last century. My passion project is to bring the true story of a Canadian hero named Yvon Durelle (DOUX, Quarter-Finalist in Screencraft True Story ), a boxer who fought the great champion Archie Moore in 1958 for the World Light-Heavyweight title, to the screen. Since we're Canadian, we don't usually celebrate our heroes with the passion they have inspired in us. We have to change that. This is the perfect time for us to remember Durelle's remarkable life and career. Just… Go to bio
