Synopsis/Details
We begin our journey as Robin boards the Rising Tide at Mogadishu Port. Shunned by the already established team of private contractors, it takes a thwarted attempt to overrun the ship to prove her worth amongst the team. Ever a woman in a man’s world, Robin is defensive but quickly shows she is more than capable of handling herself and protecting the cargo and team when needed. Bonding with the others, we see Robin leaving parcels of food for stowaways as an extra source of income. Ambushed during the night, Robin wakes on the deck, disarmed and alone to sounds of sirens as the Somali Pirates, lead by Diric, overrun the ship. Acting on instinct, Robin fights her way to find the others and soon discovers a plethora of dead crewmates and heavily armed pirates stalking the lower levels of the ship. Fighting off one of the pirates, we see Robin’s skill and prowess as she fights for her survival. Reuniting with one of the other mercenaries, Robin’s intention is to locate the stowaways and ensure their safety but discovers a tomb-like container filled with dead bodies. The only survivor is ten-year-old Matheus who she quickly takes under her wing with the promise of getting him to safety. Ever the skulking mice aboard the vast container ship, the last of her companions are executed, resulting in the pair of them running for their lives. Taking refuge, Robin shares the reasons for her return to America with Matheus who shows his innocence as he questions why Robin has abandoned her family. As their bond grows and their situation becomes more dangerous, the pair become split and Robin stumbles upon the secret container before being captured by the pirates. As Robin is tortured and beaten, she learns of the real reason for the pirate ambush and sets about planning her escape as they move closer to the mainland. Aided by Matheus, Robin secures her freedom and uses her skills and wit to eradicate the pirates in an attempt to thwart the planned attack. Using a mix of weapons, hand-to-hand combat and her military experience, Robin faces off against Aaisha in a bloody fight. Neither woman is willing to succumb to the other or give in for fear of what it will cost them. We see opposing motivations until, at last, Aaisha is killed, but the ship is already on a collision course with the steering systems disabled. Barrelling towards the mainland, Robin is able to thwart the attack just in time but finds herself arrested by the authorities. We complete the story with Robin being released from custody and leaving with Matheus at her side. Although she has yet to reconnect with the family she left behind, we see a new motherly bond formed with Matheus as they leave to create a new life together leaving the dark events of the Rising Tide behind them. It is only at the end that it is revealed that Aaisha was Matheus’ older sister, leaving us questioning how innocent the boy was in everything that has happened.
