Synopsis/Details
Timothy’s journey begins in the darkness of a recurring nightmare. Plagued by visions of glowing eyes and talking smoke, his only comfort comes from the voice of his invisible friend Aleobe. Mocked by his older brother and bullied at school, even his therapist can find little to break through the isolation he feels. After another relentless day of bullying, Timothy sits alone at home wishing he could be anywhere else.
With the offer to see Aleobe and visit his world, Mielikuvitus, Timothy is all too keen to accept. Standing in front of the ugly antique mirror that hangs in his hallway, Timothy’s reflection reaches from the glass and drags him through to another world. Met on the other side by his playful companion, Aleobe takes on the appearance of a curious fairy-like creature as he takes his first exploration through the mirror.
As he drinks in the enchantment of Mielikuvitus, Timothy is introduced to Sky who takes him to the capital, Partum City. Once there, Timothy is presented to the Elders and in time Sky explains that Timothy is believed to be a Partum Spiritus, sworn protector of this world with the power to control the Eternal Flame, the only weapon that can defeat the rising threat of the Dark Entity that hides on Shadow Island.
At first Timothy runs from his newfound responsibility but is coaxed back with the promise of knowledge of understanding of who he is. As he journeys with Sky, Nasser, Sucatraps and Aleobe he explores some of the fantastic places within Mielikuvitus. Overshadowed by his fear of the Dark Entity and the task at hand, Sky encourages Timothy to let go and in so doing Timothy is unable to control his connection with the Eternal Flame. As a consequence he exposes himself to the Dark Entity who learns of his arrival and seeks to challenge Timothy before he is ready.
As Sky hides Timothy from the searching darkness, Nasser offers them sanctuary in Conn Uri, a settlement hidden deep within the Mystic Forest. By offering Timothy a home, Nasser brings the wrath of the Dark Entity to his own doorstep. During a midnight invasion, Timothy is almost captured but the Entity does not leave empty handed. Stealing the children of Conn Uri, the deceitful Dark Entity knows that Nasser will come to save his children, and hopes that Timothy will follow.
As tensions rise amongst the group, Sky leads the group on a daring invasion of Shadow Island. To Timothy’s horror the island is protected by a giant monster that threatens to thwart their attempts before they even reach the jagged shore of the desolate island. As the team shows signs of breaking, Timothy realizes his importance and allows himself to accept that he may be more than just the outcast boy with no friends.
In a daring rescue, Timothy breaks from the group to face the Dark Entity. But he is not ready. Realising he has been deceived, a familiar figure from home exposes the web of lies to bring him into the Dark Entity’s grasp. As Timothy struggles to find his strength he falls to the Dark Entity’s power and fails to defeat it. As hope fades, Timothy’s own father appears before him and together they fight the Entity. With the Dark Entity retreating but not defeated, father and son are sent home, severing their connection with the world behind the mirror leaving Timothy lost without his only friend.
As all hope seems lost until Timothy’s father confesses he has been to Mielikuvitus before and there is hope he may, one day, return.
