Synopsis/Details
A poignant comedic drama with realistic depictions of historical people buried at Westminster Abbey. From royals to scientists, writers, and soldiers. The potential stories and dynamics between these folks are endless.
Vinny (27, ex-army, single father) is on the verge of losing his home. He’ll take any job right now. A night watchman's position arises at Westminster Abbey after a watchman is sent running by the ghost of Stephen Hawking. The spirit of Vinny's wife, Lucrezia, haunts the family home. Desperately trying to connect with Vinny and their baby, Billy (6 months).
We see the ghosts of Westminster Abbey doing their usual thing. Some bicker like Sir Isaac Newton and the Unknown Warrior. Others enjoy one another’s company, like Charles Darwin and Stephen Hawking.
Queen Elizabeth I takes a shine to the introverted Sir Isaac Newton, who typically isolates himself from the ghostly group. She tries to break down his walls and convinces him to join her to an evening playlet at the Poet’s Corner. Here we see ghosts from all walks of life. Writers. Politicians. Nobles. Royals. Different cultures... languages even, but all British.
A Tour Guide guides a class of primary school students around Westminster Abbey. One girl, Charlotte (10), can see the ghosts. The Tour Guide shows the children the grave of the Unknown Warrior, then he takes them to the burial chamber of Queen Mary and Elizabeth Tudor. The infamous Bloody Mary unloads a verbal onslaught at the Tour Guide, who is none the wiser. Queen Elizabeth arrives and the two sisters engage in a war of words. All the while, young Charlotte cries relentlessly. King James I adds to Bloody Mary’s torment. Sir Isaac discovers young Charlotte possesses the ‘gift’. He nags her about why and how. What is different about her? He must know this truth. The Unknown Warrior and Field Marshall George Wade police Sir Isaac away from Charlotte. Sir Isaac insists he will discover the how and why of their ghostly predicament one day.
During Vinny’s first night on the job, he wanders into the burial chamber of Queen Mary and Elizabeth Tudor. Here he finds the ghostly shadow figure of Bloody Mary sobbing by her pitiful memorial stone.
