Synopsis/Details
War torn Afghanistan is explored through the eyes of SAMIRA, a young American born Afghani woman who insists on traveling to Kandahar to finish a real estate deal for her father, the sale of a vacant land. Unknown to Samira, a small local school for women was built on that same land, and one of the students is a young cousin of hers, SHAHNAZ, who calls herself The Princess of Kandahar. Together, the girls go on a long, painful journey as they fight off the Taliban who burn down the school and hang the teacher. Also, an attempt by the princess father to marry her off to an old man causes her to attempt suicide by setting herself on fire. Samira saves her and the girls take refuge at the US army base, which leads to a clash between the Marines, the locals and the Taliban. The two girls go on the run and are eventually picked up by a warlord who wants to force the princess to be with her husband, and who also wants to teach Samira a tough lesson about meddling in Afghani affairs…Samira will have to fight back.
