Synopsis/Details
Iris is a shy, love-sick teenager who's heartbroken to find her best friend, Sarah, sleeping with her crush, Elijah, on the night of her 16th birthday.
Fast forward eight years. Iris and Sarah are thick as ever as Iris bottles up the betrayal and forgets about Elijah. Until Iris interviews for a job at a glass sculpture studio, owned by, low and behold, Elijah. The two spark a tumultuous relationship that evolves into alcoholism and chaos and culminates in an unplanned pregnancy and Elijah leaving Iris for his mistress.
Just when Iris thinks all is lost, Elijah's mother is unexpectedly murdered, and he reaches back out to Iris for support.
Sarah, now a therapist, and Iris’ mother June, help Iris through this difficult time and encourage her to tell Elijah about the baby, but she refuses, putting Elijah's need for comfort above herself. The stress eats away at her as she hallucinates, crumbles into paranoia, and loses touch with reality.
In a therapy session with Sarah, and bonding over shared trauma, Iris and Elijah rekindle their romance. However, secrets reveal themselves to culminate in Iris falling further into her hallucinations. She finds herself waking up in a psychiatric hospital and learns much of her memory has been a fantasy and in reality, everyone she loves is either dead or has abandoned her.
Unable to cope with her this new reality, Iris commits suicide on the hospital grounds. When the surviving Elijah is told about Iris' suicide his callousness indicates it may not have been suicide after all.
