Synopsis/Details
Doctor Vikam Ram develops a friendship with a new ward sister,
Lorna Brooks. They often speak on his rounds and going for a meal,
Lorna reveals her sister Clara has disappeared.
Vikam promises Lorna he will look for information on leave in
London with his colleague Trevor Stanhope. They ask questions at
the translation office Clara worked and at her last address. They
find out Clara had an officer admirer.
That night they meet their friend Eugene Decker and it's revealed
his brother Geoffrey is the admirer. The Doctors visit Clara and
Geoffrey finding out Clara is being trained by Geoffrey as a spy,
however she does not want Lorna to know.
Returning to France Vikam is transferred to a Casualty Clearing
Station until German attacks force its closure and he returns to
the base hospital and Lorna, although the final German push gives
them many days of casualties to deal with.
Meanwhile Clara has infiltrated German HQ and becomes the lover of
an important officer so able to access secrets which she passes on
to a French agent. A German aviator then creates a love triangle.
The Allies advance. Convinced there is a spy, German suspicions
falls on Clara. She must get to the Canadian lines with a map of
the German defences. But after a night and day through shelling,
rain and cold, she's trapped in barbed wire until discovered by a
Canadian patrol.
In hospital with pneumonia, Clara is reunited with Lorna. Geoffrey
dies in a drunken accident and Trevor admits his admiration for
Clara. Then the aircraft flown by the wounded aviator crashes into
Lorna's ward. Vikam is able to rescue her from the flames.
The following day peace is declared and the war is over.
