This historical drama is set in Greece during her fight for independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1821. The Siren's of antiquity lured unsuspecting seafarers to their doom. Greece lured unsuspecting adventurers to her fight and is set around true events.
Henry is an idealist, who's seafaring Greek grandfather settled abroad. Like the other volunteers, he expects to find a land of God's, heroes and wise men living in temples. Instead he finds poverty, corruption and ignorance. Due to these experiences, his illusions are ruined.
Henry arrives at Navarino just after the massacre of the Turkish population. Befriended at first by Yelda, a beautiful, half Turkish girl, then Miltiades, a klepht (bandit), they set off for Tripolitsa. Here his grandfather's family still live and coincidentally, the European army of volunteers can be found. His fellow travelers are on the make, Yelda for a well off husband and Miltiades, who has a foreigner to take advantage off.
On their travels, Henry meets more klephts, companions of Miltiades, who are on their way to Tripolitsa to the siege and plunder. Henry fights one over Yelda. Later he rescues a survivor from the klephts ambush, only for him to steal the letters of introduction Henry carries. They find the man later hanged by Miltiades' klephts.
The hardest revelation of all is when Yelda finds unsettling news about Miltiades.
They reach Tripolitsa under siege. Chaos reigns. No European army. Greeks trade with the besieged Turks. They find accommodation in a filthy attic. Then the fortress walls are breached and Henry must witness another massacre.
The film has a duration of approximately ninety five minutes.
