I'd like to opt out of this new feature. I don't care who reads my scripts and it's a pain in the rear to have to grant people access every time. Can this be done?
Perhaps it's not clear to people interested how to send a request either, because I just got a pm asking me how to download Coulrophobia. It was easier before...
It's best to send CJ a message, in case anything is going wrong with your account. Otherwise, the new system isn't much different from how it was before. Send request, get email, download. You are, of course, free to send the script file directly to anyone in an email, if that's what you want to do.
Update. So, yesterday a filmmaker sent me a pm asking to read and use my script. I said, sure. He asked me how to go about downloading it. I told him about the "request to read" thing, but he could not figure it out and after going back and forth I ended up emailing him the script. This was a lot of hassle compared to prior to the "request to read" when I simply would get an email when someone had downloaded my script or a pm asking for permission to use a script. I'm not asking to get rid of this, just an option to opt out of it. :)
PH, I'm sorry if I sound harsh, I'm honestly trying to help here.
Absolutely no can do what you want on this site. That's up to CJ. Send him a message, have a conversation.
Instant free downloads has been eliminated. We're moving towards a more professional environment. If all you want is instant downloads/reads from random strangers without any effort on your part, Simply Scripts might be a better site for you.
I had a couple of read requests recently. They turned out to be fake accounts. I easily solved this by just ignoring the read requests and not bothering to allow access. It took far less time and effort in comparison to before the read requests, where I had to send CJ a message every time a fake account came along and he had to manually deal with that. Imagine, there's over 10000 members. A potential of 10000 messages/problems a day, maybe more, resolved by one guy. Whereas with this new read request system, just ignore, problem solved, no one has to do anything.
CJ is a good guy. Busy, of course, but really nice. Send him a message, I'm sure he'll try to solve things for you as fast as he can.
What's with the attitude? I posted a question here figuring CJ probably takes a look every now and then and also to see if anyone else felt the same. If you find this thread annoying, you can just delete it.
I failed to opt "in" on the newsletter which introduced and explained the necessity for this new security (?) measure. Like you, Pia, I don't care who reads my shorts. For my longer stuff, I only post the first pages. When and if a Big Bucks Producer contacts me, we can exchange email addresses and I can forward a PDF. Has never proven to be problem for me, but what do I know?
Yes, features are a different matter, for sure. I only post those in the open if I have given up on them going anywhere.
This new read request thing must have come about for some reason though. My guess is that a lot of people don't like the idea of just anybody reading their scripts. I just wished there was an option to not use that faeture. I for one was quite happy with the way it was. Easy to check who downloads your scripts and there's a record of it too for those who worry about theft and such. :)
Okay. I think I have something working. Rockstar Members should now see an option to bypass the read request system at the bottom of each script listing. Checking that should switch the Read Request button back to a Download button and they won't have to grant access manually.
Elizabeth, there are a few ways to tell, usually several clues for me. No uploaded photo, I realize that's optional and not everyone wants or has the means to upload a photo of themselves. Web search the name. Sometimes names are auto generated have already been reported by websites as bots, scams, fake, whatever. Random text that doesn't make sense can be a sign. Hah, I make this all sound like I do intensive research for every account that shows up, but I don't. It only takes a few seconds.
Easiest way to spot a fake profile created by a bot is a non script related keyword link in the bio to help with search rankings. It will read like;
Derek's rodent tailors emporium showcases the finest hare and bunny related hosiery including the latest in rabbit smoking jackets. Please note that we DO NOT sell jackets for smoking rabbits. No chinchillas.
Will it put people off ?
"Will it put people off ?"
I don't know. I just don't feel that I need it. I wouldn't post my scripts here if I didn't want people to read them. :)

Neat! I found it on the edit page for a script, right above revisions.
Awesome CJ! Thank you! :)

Thank you CJ. I just tested the new option. Works fine.
Hi Lily, I'm curious as to how you determine if an account is fake.

Thanks Lily. I'll do my due diligence (as CJ recommends).

Derek, as a consolation, here's one of my fav bunny cartoons.
Cute but Psycho
I've always been one to look average and not cut up small animals. heh
Nice feature add on the opt out CJ - perfect
Thanks, CJ. That's perfect.
