Synopsis/Details
This script is well suited for a low-budget live-action production. It can also be made into an animated film due to its universal visuals.
WANE (33, average by every definition of the word) yawns wide as he breaks two eggs into a hot pan cooking on a stove. His pajamas are in dire need of a good ironing. Suddenly, nature calls and it calls loud. Wane rushes to the toilet, pulls his trousers down, and sits on the toilet. He strains, shouts, and groans, blaming his clogged predicament on his overindulgence in the local Indian takeaway the night before. Tension builds and is released as a fart. Wane believes that the worst has passed when a new bout of pain arrives like a speeding truck with broken breaks. His arms hold onto the walls for support as he pushes hard and an egg plops into the water below.
Wane inspects the egg in the kitchen. He questions whether he should eat it, but decides against this claiming that he is like a father to the egg now. He decides to create a homemade incubator and places the egg into it. His stomach rumbles so he returns to making his egg sandwich for breakfast, breaking two more eggs and dropping them into the frying pan. Wane is distracted from his cooking, mesmerized by the egg that he laid. As he thinks of adequate egg-related names, the cooking eggs become burnt and he must throw them into the bin. His stomach grumbles in complaint.
Wane is looking forward to being a father to the egg and begins to cook more eggs for his breakfast when the incubator light goes out. Panic-stricken, he runs from the room in search of a replacement bulb. As he rushes, he knocks the egg and it falls from the incubator and lands softly onto a slice of bread. THOMAS (36, beard, Lethargic) walks to the stove and sees the eggs cooking. His hand goes to an empty carton of eggs. He looks around the room in search of food.
Wane arrives. He sees that his egg is missing from the incubator. A broken eggshell now rests on the kitchen worktop, the yoke spilling over its sides. Horror changes to sadness as he slowly steps towards the table and takes a seat. Thomas slides a delicious-looking egg sandwich topped with chives and tomato sauce in front of Wane.
