Synopsis/Details
"Space Dreams Productions Short Film Screenwriting Competition - Top 10 Scripts"
In this immersive emotion-driven yet light tale Katie (11) walks one of the vast forests of the Peak District with her Grandad Brian (70's). Katie is to soon move away to Essex where her parents will be able to easily commute to London for work, meaning that this walk will be the last time she will be seeing her dear Grandad for a while that will seem like forever, one of the many reasons why Katie wishes to stay where she is.
The pair are dressed in wellington boots and coats. Brian, however, carries a green canvas shoulder bag that rattles with its metallic and glass contents. Brian stops and asks Katie to close her eyes. She does and as he explains the part that everything in nature has to play from the biggest tree to the smallest mushroom, the individual elements described grow wild in her imagination. It is here where Brian informs the wide-eyed eagerly waiting Katie about their true purpose in the forest. They are to work together and listen to the hearts of the trees - the inside voices of the trees - to find which one contains the final resting message of Brian's deceased wife, Katie's Grandmother.
Katie's Grandma's ashes were planted in the seed of a tree which bound her spirit to that of the trees. Brian planted the tree and lost it in the deep forest when he went back to visit the tree on its first birthday. Using special glass jars and metal contraptions the pair listen to the many types and forms of trees. With each tree comes a new character with a unique voice and a final message. Some speak wisdom, others of sorrow. Some laugh, others weep. Each leaves a lasting impression on Katie.
Will they find Katie's Grandma's tree before they must leave? What waits on their journey to get there? And what does this all mean for Katie?
