Synopsis/Details
Adeela (20) starts her day by caringly dressing her head with an underscarf and covering her hair with a hijab. Today is the first day she is choosing to devoutly wear the hijab.
In an environment that demands judgment, and a society that asks for conformity, Adeela only wants to be herself. More Than Cloth follows the experiences of a university student through a day that marks a turning point for her identity as a Muslim, her social life, and her relationship with a society that judges people for looking different.
Adeela is a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, but before she grows, she must navigate through difficult interactions with passing strangers, a close friend harboring conservative views on women's rights, and a change in attitude from regular customers at her father’s shop. But with the help of her faith and best friend, Adeela will see that like a superhero, she has the strength to stand up for her beliefs, which she highlights along her journey as she doodles a comic book strip of her sufferance encounters.
Who knew being yourself could be so difficult?
