Synopsis/Details
It’s the dead of night in the Texas desert. A work van travels along the U.S.-Mexico border. Inside the van is SELENA SANCHEZ, who does not want to be out here. Not one bit. Suddenly, the van sputters to a stop… … but it is not alone. A sedan rolls up and a COP steps out. As a dashboard LED light pulses, men in terrifying wolf masks emerge and Selena is abducted. MIA SANCHEZ is working her shift at El Paso Children’s Hospital when she learns of Selena’s disappearance. Mia is plagued by panic attacks and guilt over the untimely death of her parents back in Honduras. Having vowed to keep Selena safe, this is especially traumatic news. CHARLIE GUZMAN tells Mia that ICE did not take the undocumented Selena, which adds to the mystery. A recruitment flyer in Selena’s home promising a “fast track to citizenship” leads Mia to Fairborn Foundation, located deep in the remote Texas mountains. At Fairborn, Mia’s initial hope fades upon meeting RYANN SLIDE, who is entirely unhelpful. Suspicious of Ryann and her crony, the cocksure SHERIFF DYLAN RAZOR (44), Mia stops in a nearby town and learns from bar owner DANA PEREZ (36) that Fairborn is a big-time human trafficking ring. Dana is killed by one of Ryann’s goons, and Mia is nearly abducted by men in the horrific wolf masks. She meets up with Charlie, who tells her the foundation, which was co-founded by a now deceased senator, is part of a larger corporation with ties to political PACs and other unnamed “dark forces” in big business. Mia and Charlie break into Fairborn and get trapped in a nightmarish subterranean complex of intersecting tunnels dating back to the Underground Railroad. They discover undocumented men, women, and children imprisoned in glass cages, and realize the only way out is a special keycard. Mia and Charlie find the heavily drugged Selena, but they become separated and Sheriff Razor seizes Charlie. Ryann apprehends Mia and Selena and they get a first-hand look at a monstrous plot to “process” prisoners with a machine called the Hydra, which inserts a chip in their brains to render them compliant. As part of Ryann’s plan, Fairborn creates fake citizenship papers and sells the processed prisoners, called “assets,” to unnamed clients for a new on-demand society featuring custom sex slaves, voters for elections, insurrectionists, and free labor. Mia partially blinds Ryann, but she gets locked in the Hydra. With time running out, and transports arriving to take the assets away, Mia escapes the Hydra by disarming a lab tech. After obtaining a keycard, Mia and Selena free the unprocessed prisoners and kill Sheriff Razor. Ryann intercepts Mia and shoots her in the thigh with a crossbow bolt. The badly injured Mia defeats Ryann in a fierce standoff and escapes with Selena and Charlie. As the transports arrive, Mia incites the freed prisoners and they overwhelm the drivers. Six months later, a reporter confirms government officials have been linked to the sinister plot at Fairborn Foundation, which is now closed. Back in El Paso, Mia and Selena celebrate the latter’s impending green card and their renewed sibling bond. However, they are unaware that MORGHAN SLIDE (29), Ryann’s sister, is watching them ominously from nearby as she discusses a new facility in New Mexico, suggesting Fairborn Foundation may reopen.

The Writer: Thomas Jamieson

I have a background in journalism with articles published in numerous magazines and journals. In addition to writing screenplays and TV pilots, I've had four stage plays produced, and promos and commercials featured on broadcast and cable networks. I do not adhere to a specific genre, preferring to test myself as a writer with each new script. Artistic expression and pushing creative boundaries with commercially viable work is the balance I strive for in all my work. I'm not sure this applies to my stint as an amateur heavyweight boxer.
