Synopsis/Details
Duchang is Mandarin for casino. This Pilot episode tells the fictitious story of Stanley Ho, a Hong Kong businessman who grew a large business empire that held effective control of gambling in Macau for 40 years.
The story describes his early life and marries a passion for business with that of the chinese triads. It is material that to my knowledge has not been adapted previously and being such a colourful and powerful figure in the Hong Kong/Chinese economy is a story well worth telling.
Stanley Ho is the infamous casino industry leader in Macau, with control over numerous establishments involved in illegal activities such as drug smuggling, human trafficking, and murder. When Chong Jun, one of Stanley Ho's most trusted associates, is murdered, Inspector Weng Le is assigned to the case and strongly suspects Stanley Ho's involvement. Despite Weng Le's request to interrogate Stanley Ho, the Chief refuses due to a lack of concrete evidence. Meanwhile, Tacito, a business partner of Stanley Ho and a drug dealer, warns Stanley Ho of Weng Le's suspicions and inquiries about Leong Lee, a wanted individual seeking refuge at Stanley Ho's casino. Stanley Ho denies any connection to Leong. Stanley Ho orders Tacito to keep watch over the investigation and inform him if Chong Jun's diary, containing information on Stanley Ho's illicit activities, is found. Weng Le ultimately discovers the diary while searching Chong Jun's residence. Will Weng Le be able to bring Stanley Ho to justice despite facing corruption within the system, or will Stanley Ho use his influence to evade punishment?
