Synopsis/Details
The idea for this family feature animation came from witnessing first hand the plight of Venezuelan migrants who travel in swathes across South America looking for a better life. It takes an environmental perspective married with nature and seeks to tell an uplifting story, that of a young fisherman and his friendship with a talking pelican. It is family minded, designed to engage the minds of young children and adults alike. The premise is to deliver escapism with a positive outcome and give the audience a sense of wellbeing and happiness in all too dark times. In the past, birdkind enjoyed their paradise in South America. But poachers defeated protectors of birds, forcing birds to leave homes and search for new sanctuaries. Because of prevailing injustice, along with documentary host Brandy Kimoto - angered a mystical bird, Perfeccalva. A villager named Mauricio favors a place in the world of art instead of a place in a fishing community. Finding no success at home, he leaves it behind and hopes for a better chance in Cali, Colombia. Here, he encounters Fortune, a talking pelican, who needs him to not only guard him from some captor in pursuit, Old José, but, too, finds superstitious ways of reversing his cursed ability to see the future. Unluckily, Mauricio becomes a victim of Fortune’s bad luck chasing his dream - or even living his daily life. Fortune predicts a flock of Perfeccalva coming to invade Cali. But Mauricio almost gives up on him until he ends up on a journey with him to stop Perfeccalva from wiping out humanity. What they do not know is a restaurant proprietor, Monger, is out to get Fortune for a recipe To save South America, Fortune must reverse his future-seeing ability by flying higher. Mauricio finds out how Fortune has been suffering from his fear of high altitude which involves a vortex and scary illusions >. It’s up to Fortune to see a glorious future of South America by overcoming his fear. It’s up to Mauricio to stop the Perfeccalva one last time by believing in in Fortune. (It’s up to Old José to help the heroes by seeing the serious consequences of cooking the Perfeccalva.)
