Synopsis/Details
Connie, court clerk and substitute jury commissioner, is at wit's end. Recently dumped by her long term beau, she is having no luck trying to find a replacement online. One locks his kids in the closet to hide he's married. Another brings his mother along on their first date. When Janice, the normal commissioner, is forced to go on bed rest, she suggests the perfect solution: take over, make a list of excused jurors, and use that as Connie's own personal dating app.
But how will she choose? No problem, rate them all numerically. Keep the 8's, 9's, and 10's on your list. Once the great experiment begins, however, the proferred excuses make for a very short list. I'm allergic to wool, so I can only be a jury where the lawyers wear polyester. I'm philosophically opposed to jury trials; twelve against one is so unfair. I legally changed my name to Mr. Acquittal, so no prosecutor will ever put me on a jury.
Then Carl arrives. Handsome, single, engaging personality. As long as he stays off the jury, he seems perfect -- except, when Suzanne shows up for jury service as well and announces she's Carl's fiance. Not true, says Carl. But can she believe him, like she did her former boyfriend for so long? Well, she'll keep him on her very short list and see. Maybe he'll get scared off by the prospect of trying the notorious Binge Killer, and be excused.
No such luck. Carl and Suzanne are both selected on the jury along with a motley crew of other jurors, including an actress who worries a bad courtroom sketch might ruin her career, a young teen who thought he was responding to a Call of Duty competition rather than jury dury, and an anxious cat owner who had to postpone his cat's psychiatrist appointment.
Connie refuses to give up. So when the jury is sequestered, all she has to do is keep Suzanne's paws off Carl, get him to fall for her, and keep them all safe from threats by the defendant.
But as the unseen trial progresses, Connie's has no more luck as a babysitter than she does with her hoped-for future boyfriend. She loses one, then another, then a third juror. She also seems to have lost Carl when she catches him sneaking out of his room, headed towards Suzanne's.
But things are not always as they seem. And this being a rom com, it has to end happily, right? Well, for everyone but the Binge Killer, who it turns out didn't actually kill anyone. He just defrauded TV cable customers by jacking up their rates under threat that they'd be unable to binge watch their favorite shows.
