"Firestorm" is "Lost meets Supernatural in World War 2". In twenty-six searing episodes American GIs, Germans of all stripes, and the French Resistance skirmish through the ancient city to find the fabled center. Gypsies, civilians, exorcists, ghosts, and others - all broken souls seeking redemption - join the fight as it seesaws back and forth. Converging toward the legendary's city center, everyone eventually learns the dark secret hidden in the catacombs might unleash catastrophe on Europe. It's up to one American sergeant, a failed pacifist, to decide if the city can be saved, or must be consumed in a firestorm - even as an angel(?) soars upward to do battle with Satan's minions(?).
Structurally, every episode contains the A Plot) a strategic objective to be fought over and capture, often with some supernatural intervention, the B Plot) focus on one broken soul's back story as it mirrors the A Plot, and C Plot) the overarching mystery of what lies under the catacombs, and how the many mythical elements will combine to defeat it. So like "Lost", as broken souls stumble through mysteries. Like "The Wire" with deep character backgrounds of the Americans, French, and Germans (dutiful and evil). So like "Supernatural" as mythic monsters and human monsters wreak havoc and must be tamed. So like "Saving Private Ryan" with painfully young people thrust into nitty-gritty war and agonizing decisions.
