Synopsis/Details
Keen fisherman Graham waits beside the riverbank for his friend and angling freak, Trevor, to arrive so they can partake in a pleasant summer’s afternoon of fishing. When he does arrive in his car, all he has in his possession is a folding chair and a cool box of beer. He sits down beside Graham.
Peering over at Trevor’s car, Graham spots a large tarpaulin-covered mound, which Trevor explains is a lot of old rubbish he’s supposed to take down to the local rubbish dump.
Graham asks his friend where his fishing equipment is, and he’s told that due to a recent epiphany, he no longer feels the need to fish. Graham can barely believe his ears.
Trevor explains that after an evening at home, listening to his wife’s nonsense, it’s ‘out with the old and in with the new’, hence the disposal of his old life and its expendables. Graham checks his line – not a bite.
After they enjoy an alcoholic beverage together, a re-born Trevor announces that he is off to the dump after all and leaves his friend behind.
Graham calls his wife to explain that he’ll be home earlier than expected, as Trevor has left to find a spot to bury his murdered wife’s boy. It is unclear if she hears him correctly. He ends the call and calmly looks out at the serene view of the bright sun reflecting off the slowly running waters of the river.
